Yasmare Gonzalez of Cubasere Dance is offering Cuban dance classes at the Joy of Pilates studio on Tuesdays and Thursdays!

He moved two years ago from Havana, Cuba to Bellingham and teaches Cuban social dances such as Salsa (Casino), Rueda (group salsa danced in a circle format to a caller), Timba and Salsa “suelta” (salsa without a partner).

Class Offerings:
Havana Street Style
All Levels

Tuesdays 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
$12 drop-in / 4 classes for $40 (students/veterans/seniors $8)

“This class is dancing solo without partners…students will learn musicality (how to match your movements to the music), body isolation techniques, and how to infuse styling from various influences such as reggaeton, timba, salsa, son, rumba & Cuban folkloric dance, cha cha cha and more – all mixed with style from the streets of Havana. It’s pretty much a party every Tuesday night. All levels welcome.”

Cuban Salsa (Casino) & Rueda
Level 1 & Level 2 Beginners
Thursdays 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
$12 drop-in / 4 classes for $40 (students/veterans/seniors $8)

Cuban Salsa (Casino) & Rueda
Intermediate Level
Thursdays 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
$12 drop-in / 4 classes for $40 (students/veterans/seniors $8)

“This is the dancing of the Cuban social dance, Casino but instead of being danced as a couple it is danced with multiple couples together in a circle. The dance is called by a “caller” and the couples move in sync to the calls and continually pass partners around the rueda (meaning ‘wheel’ in Spanish). Dynamic, addictive, and crazy fun!

Casino is the style of Cuban social partner dancing that originated in Cuba that some informally call Cuban Style Salsa.”
